Welcome to my photography blog!

I love to share the latest images from my sessions with clients-turned-friends. Every time I step behind the camera, I do my best to create images that are natural, authentic and compelling.

I once heard it said that our achievements grow according to the size of our dreams, and to the degree we are aware of our destiny. I like that…a lot. Ten years ago, I began this journey, never dreaming that this love for photography would grow into my livelihood—and that it would grow to include Gabriel, my husband, business partner and best friend. Awesome! Our boutique home portrait studio specializes in creating portraits that bring out the best in each person we photograph.

I do not just consider myself a photographer, but a friend—one who is here to create motivation and opportunity for you to express your life to the fullest with those you love, moments experienced to remember and celebrate.

Life tells every story…once. Enjoy the stories featured here. I hope yours will be next!

Seattle Family Beach Portraits

I love working with families to help them create special moments together, that will become cherished memories long after the day has ended.  Like, for a really long time!  Gabriel and I had so much fun meeting this family and exploring Golden Gardens Park with their little boy.  Who knew we’d spend so much time focused on the dirt and rocks?  (Answer:  I think his mom had a very good idea that’s exactly what we’d be doing). But that is part of family life, and those are memories to keep as well.  Of course, as with any active toddler, you can’t go wrong with a walk with both of your folks swinging you along.  Which is what made all three of them happy.  + Me.  Because when families are happy, they smile.  And when they are being natural and authentic to who they are together, it makes my job so very easy.  Can’t you tell?   If you’re interested to learn more about our lifestyle family portrait sessions in the Seattle area, check out our family gallery on our website.  To schedule a session, just call Lorraine at 206-930-1333 or drop us a note at info@lorrainemarie.com.  We’d love to talk with... read more

Nikki – Senior Spokesmodel Class of 2014, Woodinville

I love the richness that is inherent in other cultures…language, clothing, food preferences, they all amaze me.  So it was just pure joy when Nikki told me she wanted to incorporate elements of her Indian heritage into her Spokesmodel session, blending the traditional with a modern look as well.  From outfits, to accessories, to makeup and hairstyling, it was awesome to see everything come together to reflect the beauty of the culture she represents. Because the day was rainy, we decided to keep things simple and focus on what worked – in this case, the Seattle Art Museum at Olympic Sculpture Park.  Here is a little known tip for finding great light in photographing people:  look for open parking garages, that direct beautiful light onto faces while protecting your subject from the downpour of rain.  It works!  But also make sure to stay safe and have someone keep an eye out for cars entering and leaving the garage. I’ve asked Nikki a few, just for fun “getting to know you” questions – some that maybe her closest friends might not even know! So Nikki’s friends, see how well you know her and try to figure out what her answer might be, before you read what she had to say. Here goes!   Q:   What is one movie that will always make you cry?     A:   “Anything by Nicholas Sparks.”   Q:   If money were no object, what gift would you like to give to a member of your family?     A:   “I would buy my brother another puppy…you can never have enough puppies!“... read more

Erin – Senior Spokesmodel Class of 2014, Redmond

Erin and I first met over the summer, when I photographed her with her brothers for a sibling photo shoot – so I already knew we would be in for a great time when she became a Spokesmodel for our high school senior photography business.  What I didn’t expect was that when the camera turned solely on Erin,  she would become a model right in front of my eyes. Without her brothers to share the limelight, Erin just shined! Everything about Erin’s spokesmodel session was perfect – from her clothing choices, color palette, hair and makeup styling and location selection – everything blended beautifully.  Erin decided on the Snoqualmie Falls and the North Bend Train Station as the best Eastside spots for us to use to showcase her session, and to also lend to a throwback vintage feel.  It turned out to be a great choice, because we definitely needed places to cover us when the skies decided to open up and rain.  Even so, the cloud cover offered a softness to the light that worked beautifully with what we wanted to do.   I’ve asked Erin a few, just for fun “getting to know you” questions – some that maybe her closest friends might not even know!  So Erin’s friends, see how well you know her and try to figure out what her answer might be, before you read what she had to say.  Here goes!   Q:   What is one movie that will always make you cry?     A:   “Marley and Me.  I can’t stand it when dogs die…it’s just so sad.”   Q:... read more

Emily – Senior Spokesmodel Class of 2014, Redmond

Emily captivated me from the moment she filled out our Spokesmodel application, and I knew immediately I wanted her to join our team.  Because she could have just filled out a standard (*yawn – boring) application, but instead she wanted me to know this about why she was applying to represent Lorraine Marie Photography.  She said, “For several years, I have watched your photographs stream across my Facebook and school yearbook.  What amazes me most about your work is that you are able to capture the defining attributes of your models.  In the many cases where I have personally known the person, I have recognized them equally by how you capture them, as well as their looks.  It’s inspirational, especially since I have a love of photography myself.” I wasn’t seeking a compliment, but Emily gave me the highest praise I could have wanted.  Because she caught hold of why we do what we do – to capture the essence of a person in a photograph, while being real and fun and natural and spontaneous – even if it included some direction.  And that made me so excited to work with her! So as we brainstormed her Spokesmodel photo and video shoot, Emily told me that she had a very special vintage bike that would be a great prop in the photos.  A bike that she got for her birthday, when she was still a young girl.  Memories plus a cool looking bike make for an extremely good prop!  We decided to venture into downtown Seattle, despite the cold, and see what we could come up with…and here are... read more

Zoe – Senior Spokesmodel Class of 2014, Redmond

Zoe was the second girl to join our Spokesmodel team here at Lorraine Marie Photography – a soon-to-be high school senior  from the Class of 2014 who will be representing our business this year to her friends, family and community.  And because she was one of the first to enter our program, she was able to choose from a wide range of options for her Spokesmodel photo and video session.  At the first mention of doing a snow-related theme, Zoe was completely on board.  I was so glad she was up for an adventure…and that there was still snow on the mountains! Since I am not much of a cold weather person, I left it to Zoe to guide the way.  After getting her hair and makeup done by the professionals at Gene Juarez and the fabulous Mac artists at Redmond Town Center, we went for a drive to the ski resort of Alpental at Snoqualmie Ridge.  It was the right choice – so scenic and beautiful, the perfect spot to showcase Zoe.   I’ve asked Zoe a few, just for fun “getting to know you” questions – some that maybe her closest friends might not even know!  So Zoe’s friends, see how well you know her and try to figure out what her answer might be, before you read what she had to say.  Here goes!   Q:   What is a little known fact about you, something quirky that your best friends might not even know?     A:   “I can’t fall asleep if something is on my wrists – either hair bands or bracelets, I’ll... read more

Emily – Senior Spokesmodel Class of 2014, Redmond High School

We’ve been having so much fun here at Lorraine Marie Photography, getting to know a new group of soon-to-be high school seniors, who will be representing our business this year to their friends, family and community. So we’d like to officially recognize Emily, our Senior Spokesmodel from the Class of 2014, who will be representing us at Redmond High School.   Emily was our first Spokesmodel to join us from the Class of 2014, and with that came the ability to choose from what type of model session she wanted to have.  I’m so glad the idea of photographing on the ferry to Bainbridge Island was something she wanted to do…because I had been waiting for just the right time to pull this off.  We had to rush a little bit, since the sun was setting fast and we didn’t have much time on the island itself, but in all it was a fantastic experience.  You can watch Emily’s video of our time together at the end of this post (if you haven’t already!)   I’ve asked Emily a few, just for fun “getting to know you” questions – some that maybe her closest friends might not even know!  So Emily’s friends, see how well you know her and try to figure out what her answer might be, before you read what she had to say.  Here goes!   Q:   What kind of people do you like to spend time with?     A: “I like to spend time with relaxed, happy and bubbly people who always make me laugh.  I always manage to smile and have fun... read more
